This week’s Legends of Tomorrow takes the team to the year 2166 right before Savage kills Rip Hunter’s family as it seems like there only chance to defeat Savage. Action pack start sequences now seem to be the norm as soon as the team arrives in 2166 they are thrown into a firefight as they are in war torn London. Savage has mostly taken over the the world with the exception of a few places. The imagery for this episode seems very similar to Nazi Germany. With Savage delivering speeches similar to Hitler. With his loyalist brainwashed to follow him to the ends of time including his daughter.
Speaking of his daughter, her story is very interesting as she sees her father as a hero as she tells Snart the story of the previous dictator. The dictator who released a virus on society which caused the death of her mother. It almost seemed ironic that Rip Hunter is hunting Savage for murdering his family because Savage did the same thing. But that is not the case Cassie finds out as it was Savage himself who released the virus. After being shown the truth it was only fitting foe Cassie to decide to help the team.
Apparently whoever wrote episode is a big fan of Godzilla movies or maybe Pacific Rim as we got an old fashioned Kaiju fight as Ray Palmer went giant man before Ant-man to fight Leviathan. While it was indeed a cool fight CG on the robot didn’t look that great. At times looking like a bad SCI-FI channel movie. On the other side of the battle final moments were tense as not only is there another Carter but he has been brainwashed by Savage. It was a great moment to see that Kendra had Savage beat but couldn’t do it because she wouldn’t be able to save Carter without him. The final moments with Savage taunting Rip was awesome as he taunts him though his cell. In the end it was a fun episode that did a lot even with its small missteps.
